Challenge

A global aerospace and industrial-products manufacturer producing materials for aerospace, space, chemical, petroleum, and construction markets. To maintain compliance with federal and local regulations, the client must keep wastewater-borne metal levels below regulatory limits. The existing wastewater treatment facility was deemed inadequate for the volume of process water being produced.

Solution

We reviewed the client's international operation in a structured process to determine the actual capability of the existing wastewater treatment facility. The review included a thorough assessment of all process water generated for both contaminant load and volume. The study surfaced several issues that needed to be addressed to alleviate the existing treatment system from being replaced wholesale.

Result

Business continuity preserved (wastewater process didn't slow production); product stewardship managed in light of customer and industry requirements; alignment between Facilities and HSE departments, generating a safer and more environmentally conscious place of work while maintaining compliance; and a consistent process for onboarding new wastewater treatment and facility personnel.
